Southend Borough Council has signed up to a Waste Collection Commitment, which Council representatives say reinforces the authority’s dedication to providing good recycling services.
The commitment was developed by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and the Local Government Association (LGA), using the views of residents themselves.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Executive Councillor for Public Protection and Waste, Tony Cox (pictured, centre) said: “By signing this Commitment we are reinforcing the message that we are committed to providing residents with a waste and recycling collection service which is right for them.
“The Commitment sets out what residents can expect from our service and we hope it will further improve residents’ satisfaction with it.”
The Waste Collection Commitment consists of ten pledges, which state that the Council will:
Explain clearly what services residents can expect to receive
Provide regular collections
Provide a reliable collection service
Consider any special requests that individual households may have
Design its services and carry out collections in a way that doesn’t produce litter
Collect as many materials for recycling as it can and explain to residents what happens to them
Explain clearly what its service rules are and the reasons for them
Tell residents in good time if we have to make changes to services, even temporarily
Respond to complaints the Council receives about its services
Tell all residents about this commitment to collecting waste
