The Independent candidate for Milton ward Julian Lowes has created a three-minute election broadcast, published on YouTube.

Mr Lowes will run against Adie Stanley (BNP), Maria Caunce (Con), Bob Howes (Lib Dem), Wayne Mearns (UKIP), and Simon Morley (Lab).

In this video, Mr Lowes talks about the things he would like to change about Southend, from the balance of power in the Council to remedying the cliff slip.

On his use of social media technology as a campaign tool, Mr Lowes said: “One of the key aspects of my campaign is around openness and a truly democratic process.

“Spreading my election message through alternative channels, such as the web, demonstrates my commitment to ensuring I communicate with residents in a way they want.

“This does not mean I will stop pounding the pavements. Unlike other candidates, I am not just shoving a leaflet through their letterbox.

“I am keen to hear their opinions and will be knocking on as many doors as possible during the election campaign.

“Already I have listened to hundreds of people and remain committed to ensuring that, if elected, I will take their views to the Council.”
