Southend Council asks for residents’ views on Conservation Areas
By Rachel Charman
Southend Borough Council is currently undertaking a rolling programme of appraisals cataloging Southend’s 14 conservation areas.
These areas, which are of architectural or historical interest, are all part of Southend’s built heritage.
The Council has called for people who live and work in each of the conservation areas to put forward their views on the sites before appraisals are finalised.
Appraisals have been drafted for the Leigh Conservation Area and the Leigh Cliff Conservation Area. It has been proposed that both are enlarged, but first, residents can comment on the drafts.
Drafts are available throughout the Borough libraries, or downloaded from the Environment and Planning section of the Council’s website. Comments must be returned by 12th April.
Residents will be invited to comment on draft appraisals for the Milton and Shorefields conservation areas in Westcliff over the next few months.
Cllr Anna Waite, who is responsible for planning and transport, said:
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the people of Southend to have their say on how special interest areas in the borough can be preserved and enhanced.
“I would encourage everyone to take part in the Conservation Area Appraisals and to help keep these areas special.”
