The development control committee, responsible for decisions about the future of Southend Airport, will meet today at the Civic Centre at 2pm.
In an unexpected twist, the government has prevented Southend Borough Council going ahead with the proposed expansion of the airport unless given specific authorisation by Secretary of State John Denham.
If the development control committee approve the expansion plans at today’s meeting, the final decision will be frozen.
Mr Denham will then decide whether to approve the plans or call a public inquiry into the issue.
