Major works to Southend Pier will commence this week.

The works will cause some disruption for visitors.

The walkway ramp will be lifted and the asphalt removed, meaning the pier and its Visitor Information Centre will temporarily close as work continues until Friday, January 22nd.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Executive Councillor for Enterprise, Tourism and Regeneration, Councillor John Lamb said: “The repairs to refurbish and preserve our internationally iconic Pier are proceeding well at the moment.

“It is inevitable that there will be a certain amount of disruption at particular stages of the work.

“The health and safety of our visitors, our staff and tenants on the Pier is paramount, so it is essential that we temporarily close the Pier for this section of the repairs to be completed as safely and efficiently as possible.

“The Pier’s £830,000 repairs have also included reinstating the well worn windbreaks dating back to the 1950’s, replacing windows in the pier Museum and a large amount of repainting.”
