A public meeting to discuss the proposed expansion of Southend Airport is to be held in Leigh Community Centre.

The meeting will take place on Friday 13th November at the Community Centre on Elm Road, Leigh-on-Sea.

A panel representing various groups, including airport management, will be present to answer questions from the attendees.

Representatives from Stop Airport Expansion Now (SAEN) are expected to attend. On the organisation’s website, members have claimed that “Stobart has submitted a planning application to extend the runway at Southend Airport, ignoring the fact that we are half way through a consultation to decide the airport’s future.”

Southend Borough Council stated on its website that a planning application from the London Southend Airport Company Ltd was received on 12th October. For full details of the application and an opportunity to comment on it, click here.

Keith Terry, creator pro-airport social network PlaneS, has called for supporters of the expansion plans to attend the meeting.

In an email, he urged members of the social network to “arrive early as these meetings are often well attended.”

At the last public meeting of this kind, Mr Terry told Councilbust.com at the time, supporters of the airport expansion were not able to get into the meeting due to the volume of people who had come to voice concerns against the plans.

Mr Terry added: “It would be nice to see some support for the airport in the audience. I will be there.”
