The results of a poll conducted by Councilbust.com reveal overwhelming support from the site’s readers for the proposed expansion of Southend airport.
In a public, online poll of 100 respondents, the response was generally positive about the proposed expansion plans, which have been strongly opposed by some local residents.
89% of respondents agreed that the expansion of the airport was positive for Southend, and would bring with it many business and job opportunities.
6% of respondents said that the expansion plan is a good idea in theory, but expressed some apprehension, saying that more thought should go into whether or not people in Southend would benefit before development goes ahead.
4% of respondents said that though the airport expansion may well bring job and business opportunities, the potential noise pollution and council expense of the project would outweigh any benefits.
Finally, 1% of respondents said that airport expansion would be entirely pointless and bring no benefit to Southend residents and businesses whatsoever.

I have always felt that most people in the town want the airport to suceed ,as the poll on here reflects, its just the same old story trying to get the pro airport supporters to do something is and always will be diffulcult. My site http://www.planes2009.ning.com has now got over 220 members but I know this is only the tip of the big iceberg if only more supporters would make that little bit of effort then the members of the council might listen instead of having their heads turned by a few hard nosed antis!!

Along with Keith’s site, I would also suggest anybody that is not sure about the full implications should visit http://www.flysouthend2012.com . Its the airports own extra website designed to answer people concerns over expansion with facts not scaremongering.
This area desperately needs investment. The airport will have a big knock on effect in encouraging this along with many excellent skilled jobs and training.
How many more surveys do we need to show the majority of us want expansion.
I hope the politicians and doubters can see this and realise the importance of backing expansion.
As someone who has lived in the town all my life and have seen the town decline, I am happy with the proposals to expand the airport. This is despite living near to the end of the runway for the past 50+ years. There are alternatives that could be put on what is a large brown field site! When you look at the options they could be a super prison, social housing, Industrial units to name but three ideas. One thing they all have in common is that the area will get busier with more traffic. So I say lets go with the airport option as it will provide more and varied opportunities for the town. Please just get on and build it then everyone can reap the benefits.
