Rochford and Southend East Conservative MP James Duddridge has challenged the Secretary of State for the Department for Communities and Local Government.
Duddridge requested information on the government’s target timescale for the process of ‘greening’ British homes. He wrote to Secretary Hazel Blears asking “how long it will take for 90 per cent of homes to reach efficiency level B or above in respect of energy.”
He received the following response from Ian Wright, Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the department:
“The Department has not developed estimates for how long it will take for 90 per cent of properties to reach EPC Band B.
“The EPC system is still very new, and there are insufficient numbers of properties transacted to estimate in a responsible manner a meaningful trajectory for properties to achieve this over time.”
